Auxiliary Verb এর কাজ যেমন বাক্যের Main Verb কে সাহায্য করা, ঠিক তেমনি Modal Auxiliary Verb এর কাজ বাক্যের Main Verb কে নিজের অর্থে অর্থায়িত করা।
There are 9 modal auxiliary verbs:
- shall ( শুধুমাত্র 1st person এর ক্ষেত্রে বসে। )
- should / ought to ( উচিত )
- can ( করতে পারা, Informal Purpose )
- could (Formal purpose)
- will ( তবে shall ব্যবহার না করে, সব ক্ষেত্রে will ব্যবহার করা যায় )
- would ( ত, তে, তো, তাম, তেন )
- may ( কম সম্ভাবনা )
- must ( অবশ্যই অর্থাৎ বাধ্যবাধকতা বোঝাতে )
- might ( বেশি সম্ভাবনা )
( Can, Could, May, Might ) these are often used for permissions.
Grammar Structure: Modal auxiliary verbs = M.A.V
- Normal: M.A.V + v1 ( verb এর base form)
Ex: You must finish the work. - Continuous: M.A.V + be + v + ing
Ex: You must be making the basket. - Passive: M.A.V + be + v3
Ex: This work must be finished by you.
☛ ( am to, is to, are to ) = তে হয়
- Example:
- I am to read.
- He is to read.
- They are to read.

- had to (অতীতে কোনো কাজ করতেই হতো বোঝাতে)

এই তিনটি ☛ তেই হয়, বাধ্যবাধকতা বোঝাতে অর্থাৎ Must এর পরিবর্তন শব্দ।
Example: I had to study more and more.
☛ Had better ( ভালো ছিলো )
- Example:
- I had better go out before.
- You had better take an umbrella.
☛ Would rather = বরং ভালো
- Example:
- I would rather die than beg.
- I would rather stay than leave.
- He would rather stay here alone than go to outside see the tv.
- The mother would rather die than lose her child.
☛ Used to – ( Verb এর Base Form ) ( অভ্যস্ত )
- Example:
- I used to smoke.
- I am used to smoking. ( যখনই Subject এর পরে be verb বসে, তখন Main verb এর সাথে ing যোগ হয়।)
☛ be going to ( যাচ্ছে )
- Example:
- I am going to open a shop.
☛ can not but ( না করে পারে না কিন্তু )
- Example:
- I can not but go there. বর্তমান বোঝালে – ( আমি সেখানে না যেয়ে পারিনা )
- I could not but go there. অতীত বোঝালে – ( আমি সেখানে না যে পারলাম না )
একটা বিষয় মনে রাখতে হবে –
can not but থাকলে Verb এর Base Form,
can not help থাকলে Verb এর সাথে ing যোগ করতে হবে
